Today started potty training with Claire. We went cold turkey - no pull ups - and started with 'big girl' underwear. Except Claire didn't want to wear her new underwear, when we put them on this morning she asked us to take them off. We decided not to push the issue so she went underwear free. Claire gets an m&m for peeing on the potty and a mini kit kat bar for poops.
Twice in the morning she started to pee, realized there was no diaper, asked me to use the potty, and finished peeing on the potty. I was happy she was starting to get the concept of being wet. She did poop in her shorts during the morning and with no underwear to hold it in, the poop went everywhere :( But after I cleaned her up she asked to go on the potty and she peed!
We had another successful potty trip before lunch and after lunch she asked to use the potty again. Claire kept looking at me while she was sitting on the potty and I asked her if she wanted some privacy*. Claire said 'yes', so I left the room for a minute and she said 'I pooped'. I thought she was kidding but she wasn't, she actually pooped in her potty!
When naptime rolled around I wanted to put a diaper on her and she was adamantly opposed. She told me she was a 'big girl'. I thought for sure naptime would be interrupted with an accident, but she stayed dry through her nap. She did have an accident after naptime, so tomorrow I will insist on a potty trip before snack time.
The rest of the evening was successful. We kept asking her if she needed to use the potty and she was able to tell us when she needed to go. For bedtime, we insisted on a diaper and she agreed.
So far we feel very good about Claire's potty training. I am sure we will having some set backs, but it feels good to be moving forward.
*Claire likes to walk in to the bathroom when Cory or I are using it and we ask her for 'privacy'. So we find it funny that after I made the privacy comment Claire started asking us for 'privacy'.
