Old mirror + Spraypaint = New chalkboard

While Cory and the guys were working on the shed, I had a project of my own - making a chalkboard out of an old mirror.  I have wanted a chalkboard in the kitchen for awhile and this is a pretty simple project that could be accomplished when Claire was napping.

Supplies: Mirror (a photo frame with glass also works), Fine grit sandpaper (220), Black spray-paint, Chalkboard spray-paint, and most importantly chalk!

I took apart the frame and mirror; it makes them easier to paint.  Cleaned and dried both pieces.

Using the fine grit sandpaper, I took the shiny finish off of the metal.  This helps the spray-paint adhere.

Using the sandpaper again, I roughed up the mirror surface for better adhesion.  I again cleaned and dried both pieces.

The first coat of satin black spray-paint:

First coat of chalkboard paint.  It definitely needed a second coat, you can still see the reflection of the trees in the mirror.

During Claire's afternoon nap I gave both pieces a second coat.

Let dry overnight, reassemble, hang up, and enjoy writing with chalk.
